Prep School Students Participate in Inaugural Exchange
Wednesday, 25 June 2025

Earlier this year two students from the Prep School spent a fortnight at the prestigious St Stephen's College Preparatory School in Hong Kong as part of an exchange between the schools.

The Gordonstoun students experienced first-hand the magical Hong Kong culture and enjoyed a host of activities while living at the heart of the Stanley Peninsula, at the southern tip of the island. It is the first ever exchange between Gordonstoun and a school in Hong Kong.

After a 13-hour flight, the students were welcomed at St Stephen's with a Scottish-themed assembly, culminating in a 'mini Pipe Band' performance. During the school day they joined in with lessons and activities with the other children, which included STEM activities, basketball, climbing, football and life skills.

Outside of the school day, the Year 7 boys were given a tour of the iconic city and enjoyed trips to Temple Street and the Peak as well as a visit to Ocean Park, an animal theme park, where they got up close to one of the two Giant Pandas. The long-haul exchange programme was set up through the 'Friends of Gordonstoun Hong Kong' - a group of volunteer alumni and current and former parents. It allows prep school students from both schools to do a two-week exchange boarding at each other's schools while experiencing a different culture.

One of the students Lorcan F said: "I had the time of my life going through the cramped streets and bustling concrete jungle. The trip was short and sweet, I would happily have stayed for longer. It was an amazing trip and being sent to Hong Kong was the best thing I have ever signed up for in my time at Gordonstoun."

Four students from St Stephen's College made the return visit to Gordonstoun in April.
