With over 40% of our students receiving some financial support through means tested bursaries, our community is greatly enriched by a diversity of backgrounds, perspectives and potential. In the coming Autumn term, we will be delighted to welcome our new group of scholars and we are shining a light on a particularly special arrival: our first Friends of Gordonstoun; Hong Kong Scholar.

Thanks to the generous bursarial support by Friends of Gordonstoun Hong Kong, Kayla L will begin her journey with us this August. Here, she shares what she is most looking forward to as she prepares to join the Gordonstoun family:

"When I first came across the scholarship, I had a strong urge to apply for it because I have always wanted to enrich my life through gaining different learning experiences. It has not been an easy decision though, as I could anticipate the challenges of studying at a boarding school 7,000 miles away from home.

"Now, I am really looking forward to immersing myself in the exciting school life awaiting me at Gordonstoun. I hope to meet new friends from different backgrounds and experience first-hand the diverse cultures and customs in the UK and all around the globe on campus. I cannot wait to walk up to the new peers and teachers and introduce myself to all of you.

"Last but not least, I would like to express my sincere gratitude for the generous support from Friends of Gordonstoun and all donors, who have offered me this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to study abroad. And I truly thank Lam Woo, my current secondary school, for nurturing me to become who I am now. It is hard to say goodbye, but I am also thrilled to embark on the new journey."

Hong Yung Cheng, Principal of SKH Lam Woo Memorial Secondary School, said: "First and foremost, we must extend our sincere gratitude to the generosity and support from Friends of Gordonstoun and all donors for making a difference in Kayla's life. We are also very thankful for having the caring and passionate team from Gordonstoun to guide her through the application and beyond. It is really heartwarming to know that Kayla is in good hands.

"Studying on such a beautiful campus with a long history of excellence is truly an amazing opportunity. We are certain that she will be hugely benefited from experiencing a diverse curriculum, making lasting friendships with peers from various cultural backgrounds, and enjoying many unique activities.

"To Kayla, congratulations on being awarded the scholarship for your two-year study at Gordonstoun! The school is incredibly proud of your achievements."
